Sammie Alexander is a senior Environmental Science major from Roanoke, VA, and has minors in Geographic Information Systems and Conservation Studies. She is enrolled in the Accelerated Master’s program within the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, in which she hopes to assess watershed connectivity and usage by collecting and analyzing environmental DNA samples in regards to the presence of Alosa aestivalis (Blueback Herring), Alosa psuedoharengus (Alewife), Channa argus (Northern Snakehead), and Ictalurus furcatus (Blue Catfish). Sammie began volunteering in the Fisheries Ecology Lab her freshman year sorting macroinvertebrate and ichthyoplankton samples, and aiding in river herring stream surveys.
